Brotherly Love

Dax and Kai SOMETIMES play well together. They are usually in their own separate worlds. But just sometimes, they are so adorable with each other... The first set of pictures I was in the other room, and kept hearing Dax say "You are such a big boy! You are such a big boy! Yes you are" I thought it was strange, so I went in, and Kai was on top of Dax. They were giggling and having a blast wrestling around. The second set of pictures we were on our bed watching tv, and I look over and Dax was sitting with his arm around Kai. When I ran to get the camera though, Dax was trying to perform and be silly for the camera, and so I missed the sweet innocent brotherly love....dang it.

Here are some pictures of Kai having his snacks. The first ones I love because it shows how mischevious he is getting! He is still so small and innocent to me, that I can't get mad at him. I love the pics in the high chair because it shows his cute smile. The dentist confirmed that the shorter tooth will be staying until it falls out due to grinding that Kai did before he got his 2nd front tooth. He is still our little monster face!

I picked up this power wheels from a yard sale quite some time ago for $10 bucks. Totally worth it! Cole replaced the battery with an ATV battery. Dax likes to pick up chicks in it, particularly the girl across the street. Last year when she had short hair Dax thought she was Dora, but they now are on a first name basis. There is also a picture of my almost 15 yr. old nephew driving it.

This past year and a half of this adorable cute boy has been rough. He has struggled a lot, over came many obstacles, and is still a happy little monster. We love this boy to death, and are so thankful each and every day for the light and love he brings into our home. I'm up late tonight worrying about him, and some things we recently learned about him. Things that will help him to develop, grow, and be happy. But the news is hard to swallow. My eyes tear up typing this. I worry about what people think of him, or how they will treat him. I would never want anyone to think anything bad, or have Kai feel bad. I would do anything I can to keep him from that, one of my reasoning's for posting this. (And so I don't have to explain this over and over. I want people to understand this sweet boy.)

This week Kai was "diagnosed" with PDD. Pervasive Development Disorder. He saw a psychologist this week that watched Kai, interacted with him, and talked with me. He did not want to diagnose Kai with Autism because it is based on a spectrum. But he did say, that he would say Kai has mild autism. Kai is very young to be diagnosed with this, but its so helpful to know now, rather than later, to get a head start on this adventure. I would say that we are very lucky to have this knowledge now, rather than later, when it would be a bigger issue.

The only reason I am blogging about this, is so everyone is aware. It is really hard as a parent to have a loving and happy child, and have people asking or telling you that something is wrong, or isn't right with your child. Who is to say what "normal" is. I want everyone to be aware of his situation, to know Kai is OK. He is happy, smart, and loving. To me, that is "normal". All kids, talk, walk, sit up, etc. on their own time. Kids should not be a race, or a competition.

We are very lucky to have found a label, as much as I hate giving children or people labels. It will help us educate ourselves and Kai, so that he can hopefully out grow this. The psychologist believes he has a high chance of over coming this, and being very close, if not completely normal. It's just going to take work.

A little bit about PDD. Not PDDNOS, Pervasive development disorder not otherwise specified.

Children with PDDs, such as autism, can display a wide range of symptoms which can range in severity from mild to disabling. They also vary widely in their individual abilities, intelligence, and behavior.

These are some symptoms and behaviors that Kai has.

Difficulty with verbal communication, including problems using and understanding language.
Difficulty with non-verbal communication, such as gestures and facial expressions.
Difficulty with social interaction, including relating to people and to his or her surroundings.
Unusual ways of playing with toys and other objects.
Difficulty adjusting to changes in routine or familiar surroundings.
Repetitive body movements or patterns of behavior, such as hand flapping, spinning, and head banging.
Changing response to sound. (The child may be very sensitive to some noises and seem to not hear others.)

We feel so blessed looking back at the pregnancy, at 20-something weeks the high risk Dr. told me there is a high risk that he might not make it, shortly after I was on hospital bed rest, thinking Kai would come at any time, he fought until coming early at 34 weeks. Two rounds of RSV, and being hospitalized, and now 18 months with Dax as his brother :) He is a fighter, and he will fight through this. I have to remember this: Kai has no idea he has PDD. He knows that he is loved, and is happy. He has no reason to cry, feel bad, or embarrassed. As a mom, sometimes I worry too much about my feelings and worries, instead of him. I need to start thinking like Kai. I'm Loved, Kai is loved, our family is loved, we need to be happy. We are SO blessed. I don't know what I would do with out Kai, his smile, personality, and the joy that comes from
him. I hope that friends and family will also see Kai, as Kai, and not as a label, like we do.

At grandma's house this will find one, if not all grandsons. The "sand box". There are 6 boys out of 8 grandkids on my parents side. It can get wild, loud, fun, and very dirty. This is Kai's first experience ~~eating~~ playing in the sand box. The boys are so cute together.

Kai's First Hair Cut

I thought I was never going to be "that kind of mom"- the who never, i mean NEVER cuts their babies hair, even if they have it, until they are over the age of 2. I'm not saying that's a bad thing. When you cut hair, you just want your kids to fun fun stylish hair, even if they are babies. Example: Dax had side steps at 3 months.
Kai has this white fluffy kind of curly hair. I loved the curls. I realized that when wearing the helmet- 23 hrs a day, his hair was mashed down. You couldn't even see it. I figured I might as well cut it, it was looking a little shaggy and patchy. He even still looks cute, and it will grow back....it will grow back... I have to keep telling myself that.

The ups man dropped off some diapers we ordered offline. They were in these big boxes. Of course Dax thought they were the greatest things ever. Kai has had a miserable cold the last 2 weeks. Last Saturday, before it was freezing again, it was warm and sunny out. Kai sat out on the lawn, and enjoyed the warmth. His runny nose has been ridiculous, and he started blowing bubbles. Dax and I were cracking up, so we had to get some pictures of it.

Dax is turning into such a good big brother. He helps me out quite a bit with getting diapers, wipes, Kai's blanket, giving him his bottle to hold, etc. They have their moments fighting over toys, but boys will be boys. I haven't blogged in quite some time, I thought I should catch up, but it will be slowly... This past winter has been so cold! We have had snow a couple of times, which is not normal! It was fun to go out at night, and see snow starting to cover the cars, and keep piling up ( this is a pile up of snow for st.george!) The next day while Kai was napping, I let Dax play in the backyard in the snow. As you can tell, we don't have snow clothes, shoes, or anything like that. He wasn't sure what to think, but he had fun!

Kai's 1st birthday STACHE BASH

For Kai's 1st birthday, we had a 'Stache Bash. Since a 1 yr old can't party and have fun like we can, I decided to make it fun for everyone else. Anyone that knows me, knows I love to dress up and be goofy. I love to see the friends and family of ours who a little stiff loosen up :) These pictures are from the FAUX-TOE-BOOTH. My wonderful friend aleciadawnphotography.blogspot.com took the snapshots for us. A big thank you to her! Everyone created their own mustache, or facial hair. Dressed up with funny little props, and posed for the camera. It was a crack up. We had a big sign by the front door that said " Stache Bash this way (with an arrow) It'll put hair on your face!"

These two partners in crime always have a blast together. I'm always shocked how well they play being two 2 year olds. Usually there is hitting and fighting over toys with 2 year old kids. Not these two (ok occassionally, but usually not too much) Ever since these guys were a year old they have played well, giggled at each other, copy cat each other, and could say nothing at all, or talk in gibberish and the other one understands. It's so adorable and humorous to watch them play. We always joke that they are in love with each other (picture at the top) We sometimes say they could get an apartment together and watch Buzz, Yo Gabba Gabba, and the disney channel, and play with toys all day. When they are together no one else exists. They live in their own little funny world.

Little Green Monster

One morning I was in the shower to find a green little monster peeking in on me. I about lost it.
I couldn't even imagine what he could have gotten into. Then I found it. A little green ink pad. How does he find all of these kinds of things???
He was saying "wipe" and wiping the pad on his face.
It was on his legs and arms as well.
I tried taking pictures of him, but as you can tell, he was mad about it. He knew he was in trouble, and didn't want his picture taken.

"Baby Hit"

This is a picture of the damage a 2 year old big brother can do. And, in about 10 seconds. (This was a week later)I came home from the temple and a girls' night, to find Cole holding Kai, while Dax keeps saying"baby hit". I looked at Kai's face and panicked. When I see any injury to the head I worry, especially right before bedtime. I don't dare put him to bed like that. It was about 10:00, so we headed to the ER. After a couple of hours,and a cat scan, he turned out to be fine. It just looked horrible. I am so thankful! I couldn't handle any more injuries, or hospital stays with this little one.

Love Hate Relationship

Daxton and the washer and dryer have a love hate relationship. He LOVES putting anything and everything in the dryer, the picture with buzz, blanky, and who knows what else is whatI find daily. He loves trying to get in the dryer but can't quite do it himself, so I help him get in with a loving push, and he hates it. He loves to turn them on and off ( I can't say that I love that. He tends to pause or stop loads in the washer when I'm not paying attention. I think because they are front loading, it causes the hate. He hates watching his blanky, doggy, and buzz get a "bath"- we must call it that or it is a complete melt down, before we called it a bath he would sit in front of the washer and dryer and just bawl and cry out for them. He still isn't fond of the fact that they have to have a bath, but he can deal with it a little better.

ABC's

Dax loves counting and his ABC's. Even though he can't really sing or say the ABC's, and just knows a couple of the letters, which is still great. I saw this idea on How Does She, I found it here. I have been trying to decorate the boys' room in robot, since it is little boy like, bright bold colors, and hopefully will last awhile and wont grow out of it. I can always switch the robot stuff with cars,airplanes, monsters, super hero's, whatever they are into in a couple of years. I made my abc's a little different. I just screwed them into the wall, because I am no measurer ( if that is a word-apparently not, it has a squiggly red line under it!) The screws added to the robot feel. I could paint the screws black, but I actually like them. I started hanging these up one night myself. I got the A and the B up, but Cole could here me yelling. I get putting tiny holes in the wall. Dax then picked up "Gosh Dang it!" or "Dang it!". The Cole came in to rescue me, and finish hanging them up. Thanks hun! The boys' room is coming along very slowly, but getting there. I am getting excited about how it is looking, and so is Dax. He can now look at the "E HE A's" now anytime he wants. (usually when he is going to bed, we can hear him singing "E HE A's, E HE A's"

Dax loves to try hats and glasses on. He has broken 3 pairs of mine...yes...perscription ones. The ones I can wear now are crooked, because of this "dird". When Dax put these on Cole and I were cracking up. Cole kept saying he was white and nerdy from the Al song song. Dax cant always say his R's, and he was having a hard time saying nerd. He was saying white and dirdy, which sounds like dirty. This little bugger is lucky he is cute and funny sometimes, I think right now that is what's getting me through the days.

Big Boy Bed

Since Dax turned 2 he has been sleeping in his big boy bed. I found this bed on craigslist up north for $40 dollars. Dax is obsessed with anything that has wheels, so I thought this would be a good bed for him, so he would be excited about not sleeping in the crib. I soon want to put Kai in Dax's crib, and have then share a room...not sure how that will work.... Thanks to Hammy for going out of her way to pick up the race car bed for Dax! I had to include the pic of Cole pretending to "leets" as Dax calls it.

"THE purple hat"

Let's just say wow.... Dax is really into hats, any hat. While grandma was babysitting i showed up to pick him up, and this is what he was wearing. I couldn't get him to take it off so we "borrowed" it for the night. I couldn't resist laughing on the ride home everytime I looked in the rear view mirror. He looked so serious with this hat, coat, and sunglasses. He then jumped out of the car, and was strutting around the front yard. Our neighbors must think we are from the circus.... That night when we were babysitting Dax's buddy Jax, he had to give it a try... Let's just say that hat went straight back to grandmas. How could I chance having to go to the park with Dax wearing that, or the splash pad, or wal-mart???? This boy sure does not lack confidence... I love the "over the shoulder" look.

ok, Dax would have done this whether I was watching him, or Cole. But I like to say that it was because Cole was watching him, and this is Cole's child, especially when Dax does things like this. Dax thinks that everything that sprays (besides otta bottle -water bottle) and things that come out of a tube, are for your hair. Even a&d ointment for diaper rashes....lovely. Cole came out into the living room while Dax was "doing" his hair, saying"Hair!"
You can imagine what it was like getting that out of his hair! Lets just say his hair looked slicked down, and like a Ken doll for a couple of days.

Dax's Birthday...

I know, I know. No need to say it. I have been such a slacker when it comes to blogging. I just hate waiting for the pictures to upload. For some reason on my computer, its like molasses. Anyways.....
This post is about Dax's birthday. Last year we pulled a prank, since it was April Fool's day. We told everyone we were pregnant, that Dax was going to be a big brother (look at the post from last year...) Karma.... I ended up being pregnant! We found out within a couple of weeks. So this year we decided to do some more light hearted jokes. First one, super glue a quarter to the front porch. Cracks me up every time someone comes to the door. EVERYONE tries to pick it up. It's still there....we have quite enjoyed it. The second one was to fill chocolate cookies with tooth paste instead of frosting. Yuck. Dax enjoyed one..... until I made him stop! Grandpa ate one too hahaha.... Since we weren't having dax's party on his actually birthday we decided to have cupcakes. He didn't like us singing to him. I guess we are that awful! He enjoyed his cupcake thanks to 25 Main!
I cannot believe how old this little bugger is. The first 6 months of his life were a blur. An adventurous blur. By his first birthday I couldn't believe how fast the time had gone, now that he is 2, I feel like I blinked and now he is this funny, animated, smart, stinky little boy, who every day makes us laugh, smile, and feel loved. I am so thankful to have been blessed with Dax.

I couldn't even jot down all the cute things he does or says, or everything he likes. He is truly a happy boy. He loves everyone, adventure, and is so sweet. I can't believe my baby is 2!

Brothers

Dax loves Kai. He really hasn't done anything mean to him! I'm shocked! I thought by now Dax would have done something to Kai!! He did try to pick him up tonight, and that didn't go too well, but Dax wasn't trying to be mean. Dax always brings Kai his "juice"- his bottle. And his binky- though Kai isn't a binky baby. Whenever Kai is asleep in his bouncer Dax has to sit in front of Kai and stick his face into Kai's and Say "BABY!!" with a big smile on his face. He also pats his lap when he sits on the couch, meaning he wants to hold Kai, but usually for only a second, it doesn't last. He also kisses Kai, and always ending with the response of "awwwww!" since that's usually what is said by someone after he kisses his baby brother. These pix were taken when Kai was 2 months, to the day. I love these boys....Though some days I wish I could go back to 5 years ago...childless....oh freedom, I must say it seems like FOREVER ago that I had some of that good stuff called freedom.

A New "Doggy"

As you have seen in the past, Dax takes his "doggy" every where. We call it the lion named doggy so we don't feel so dumb in public or around others calling it doggy- when it is obviously a lion. Because dax eats, bathes, sleeps, and takes this little guy every where, we needed a new one. We were so worried it would get so worn out and if it got replaced, he would notice. We also worried we wouldn't be able to find anything that looks like this doggy. Cole actually gave it to me when we were first married at valentines. It used to have a stuffed heart attached. My mom told us that she found some stuffed animals that looked just like Dax's dog. She bought one. We bought 2. We are well prepared for probably the next 10 years. I will keep the original doggy forever! It's Dax's little trademark. He is known for it, and I love it.

Families can be together forever

I am so thankful for my family and that they can be together forever. Knowing that they can be together forever puts my soul at ease. Around Christmas I put Dax's old bedding set on Craigslist. Since he was in the NICU, and then slept in a bassinet, he barely used the bedding. When we had Kai, it was a repeat of what happened with Dax. I figured I would rather have someone use the bedding then have it sit in storage. Someone asked about the bedding, and wanted it. I have been communicating with this sweet girl in a different state about getting the bedding. She shared her blog about her little boy with me. It was a tear jerker for both Cole and I. I hope she doesn't mind me sharing it with you. If she does, I will remove the address. I realized that I do not want to pass up any moment with my boys. I am so thankful for the church and the blessings we receive because of it. I wanted to share this with you because I do not want any parents to pass up all the precious moments they have or could have with their children.

I am known for starting projects and not finishing them. I usually have about 10 projects half painted, sanded, put together, out in the garage, or in my craft closet, along with bought items to make something... So I decided to finish all the ones that were out in the garage- and use them! I am pretty proud of myself. But now.... I have taken on sewing...my my my...I am crazy. I used to despise sewing. I still don't love it. But I can do simple things. With some of our tax return we decided to purchase a sewing machine. I read some reviews about one that no one had one bad thing to say about it. I will start from the beginning. On Dec. 9th I woke up at about 4:00 am. I felt like something wasn't right. I was uncomfortable, and have had trouble sleeping the last couple of months, but it wasn't that. I felt like something weird was going on with my body, but couldn't put my finger on it. My feet had gotten really swollen the last couple of days before hand, but didn't think it had anything to do with that. I rolled to my other side, and thought, "Well, whatever it is, it can wait." I finally was sleeping well! But I still laid there with my eyes opened. Then I felt it. A weird release of pressure, and a slow leak of quite a bit of fluid. I knew what my water breaking felt like because it did as well with Dax. I still laid there for a moment thinking "seriously, again? less then 15% of women have their water break" I was breathing fast, in shock. I didn't want to wake cole if I had accidentally peed my pants! But I kept leaking and leaking. After a minute I shook Cole's shoulder to tell him my water broke. He responded "What??What?? Are you serious?" I will always remember the way he said it and the look on his face. The first thing he did was call his mom. I changed my clothes-dumb thing to do! I kept leaking! I then, in a panic not knowing what to do, started flat ironing my hair- I wanted to look presentable! I didn't want bed head! Then I thought- AH! I need to call my mom and tell her so that she could come over to the house until Dax woke up. I called her, and as soon as she answered she said "Is it time?"
I was in so much shock, but calm, my water broke one day later in my pregnancy then it did with Dax. 6 weeks early. With Dax I was 34w 4 d pregnant, this time 34w 5d pregnant. When I got to the hospital, to my luck, Dr.Lunt was sitting at the nurses station. ( Who I must say is such a wonderful Dr.)His response was "What are YOU doing here??" he laughed a little, knowing my history. And they checked me right in. No waiting or checking to see if my water actually broke. They hooked me up to monitors, and I was already contracting 5 minutes apart. I wanted to go to sleep knowing how long labor can last. By the time we called all the family, and got settled in, I was checked, I was only dilated to a 2. My next check I was a 4. That was about an hour or so later. I felt like things were going so slow, so I sent Cole to eat. I then wanted my epidural so I wasn't having horrible contractions at the same time as receiving it! That's how my last labor was, and it was miserable! Let me just say, I don't think I would want to go through labor without an epidural, but this time it was very uncomfortable. I felt really light headed. All I could picture was that long tube/needle thing going into my back. I had had one before, I was pretty calm, until it started going in. I then laid back and the amazing nurse gave me oxygen. Cole then went home to shower and get anything else I needed. Dr. Lunt came in to check me, and I was a 6. I thought I was going to be there all day. About 15 minutes later I asked the nurse to check me. I was an 8+! I though....well cole better hurry! I called him to hurry up! I told the nurse I thought I was getting close so she checked me, and yes, I was all the way there! I called Cole in a panic thinking, if he doesn't get here in time, I better call my mom, who was in the waiting room, to run in so I wouldn't be alone. The nurse had me to a test push- which with Dax, I pushed for about 10 minutes with the nurse. The nurse told me to stop! My husband, and my amazing friend Alecia who was going to take pictures, came into the door. Dr. Lunt followed and the show started! It went so fast. With Dax I pushed for probably 30 minutes. This time, I pushed 3 times, 2 contractions, and he was out! I was so shocked how fast things went. It seemed to be over in a blink of an eye. I am so thankful that alecia captured this once in a lifetime moment for me to remember. The birth of our miracle, Kai. Kai came out with no cord around his neck- he had had it around his neck twice , and had low amniotic fluid, and it was amazing to see him. There was a point where we weren't sure if he was going to make it. I hope you enjoy these pictures- I think they are amazing.

He was born at 1:42 p.m. weighing 5 lbs 4 oz and 16 3/4 inches long
He is doing well in the NICU and we can't wait until we can take our early Christmas present home!!

As I have been packing my hospital bag, and getting things prepared for whenever this little one arrives, there has been a lot on my mind. Of course wondering if I can do a newborn again...sleepless nights and days, all of the feedings every 2 hours, the newborn cry-which is adorable, when it's not your own in the middle of the night, a 19 month old AND a newborn, labor-and I will say this time I want an epidural as soon as I walk in those doors, the NICU, which can be emotional, all of the sweet moments with a baby of course and the memories. But I will say the one thing I do keep thinking about is purchasing Lansinoh nursing pads- even if I decide nursing doesn't work out again. I do know whatever happens, and how it happens things will work out.I have faith, and I know heavenly father will bless us. I think all of you mothers will understand this picture!
P.S. I will be posting pictures of Dax soon and what has been going on!

23 Weeks along

So I decided to do a little post before I get some time to get cole to scan the ultra sound pics in. I thought I would update on baby #2. I am now past 23 weeks. This little boy is pretty busy, not as crazy as Dax was, but kicking like crazy when he is awake-usually when I am trying to go to bed. He is the most active around 1am and about 3 or 4 in the afternoon. I was put on bedrest due to low amniotic fluid. They cannot see any physical level of why it is decreasing. I am hoping it doesn't get lower and I get put in the hospital on bedrest with fluid IVs. I am wondering if it has anything to do with how my water broke early with Dax. I will be doing ultra sounds weekly to get updates so cross your fingers! I just don't know if I can make it until 36 weeks on strict bedrest! Other than the fluid the baby is growing great, now estimated at 1 1/2 pounds. If you have any great boy name ideas let me know!!!

Bed Rest

So I have been put on strict bed rest.I can only get up to eat, shower, and go to the bathroom. It has been almost 3 days and I am already bored to death. I need ideas to keep me entertained and busy. And what am I supposed to do with an 18th month old all day who is busy as can be? If anyone has ideas please tell me!!

Open letter to a new Momma

Today we celebrated the upcoming birth of a new baby boy. The mom-to-be is one of my last friends to have their first child, and there is something so incredibly special about that. Something so special you just don't get when you are pregnant with that first baby. You wonder why everyone has constant big goofy smiles, fluffing all over you and can't keep your hands off your belly. :)

And then you have that baby. And you know.

So Momma B., this is what I hope you remember over the next few weeks:

For at least the new two years, probably more, you will have very little control over your life. It starts with labor -- you can't plan it (I know, it killed me too!), you can't tell that little one how or when to come, and you can't control how the labor will go. All you can do is relax, let go, breathe, and realize you have to give it up to the people that know best...the nurses, your doctor, God.

After the baby is here, you will have zero control over your life because that itty bitty patootie will rule. your. world. You will feel exhaustion like you've never known. You will want to give your right arm for a few straight hours of sleep. You will have to plan to leave the house well ahead of time. And when you do leave the house, it will be 30 minutes later than you had planned.

Speaking of sleep, even the best sleepers (ours slept through at FIVE weeks) will drive you absolutely mad at times. They will sleep three hours at a time for a few nights...sleep for six one night...you will get on your knees thanking God...and then that next night they will will wake up every two. It is a bit maddening. There are also nights when they just don't want to sleep, thank you very much. They would rather just lay there staring at you, thank you again.

Because of this, there may be times you will look at your child at 3 a.m., begging him to PLEASE JUST GO TO SLEEP. You may not even like him much at those moments. YES -- I said it, there are times you just are not nuts about them for being itty bitty and helpless and ruling your world (at 3 a.m. nonetheless).

And then that moment passes, and in the middle of the night, you will look at your baby's sweet eyes in the dark, rub his tiny head and you may just cry because you are so incredibly blessed to have this child. To be rocking this child at 3 a.m. You will realize there is no place you would rather be, ever.

You will be overwhelmed at how people love your baby. Yes, you know your friends love you. But you will realize you didn't have a clue how much they love you until you see the way they love your child. You will realize how much you mean to the people around you, because of the way they love your baby. It will overwhelm you, the love you will feel in those first weeks.

A few weeks after that sweet bubby is born, you will start needing a little somethin'. Just a little -- a little something in return for all that feeding, loving, feeding, smooching. And then. THEN, your child will smile at you. YOUR CHILD. He will smile at you like you are the sun and the moon and the stars and it will be one of the best moments of your entire life.

You will spend the rest of your days trying to get your child to smile at you like that again.

One of the biggest changes I noticed after our son was born was the new "weight" of being a Mom. It's the best way I can explain it. It's like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, in a good way. You now have a life to look after, and that is a really big deal. Sometimes that weight is really noticeable. You will feel it all the time -- but mostly when you leave the baby with Daddy for an hour. Or with Grandma for an evening so you can go out with friends.

From the day that baby is born, you are ALWAYS, ALWAYS thinking about them, worrying about them, wondering about them. You may not realize it, but it's always there. That weight lessens as they get older, but it's only because you get used to it. You are now a Mommy, and that comes with so much wonderful responsibility.

Your life is about to change for the better. You will never be the same. You will come back and read this a few months from now and have a whole new appreciation for these words. And when someone you love has their first baby, you will try to express to them the crazy, indescribable love they are about to feel, and you won't be able to put it into words for them either.

You are about to meet the love of your life, and I am so happy for you.

After going in for an ultra sound on Monday and the babies legs were crossed we still didn't know what the baby's gender is. I went in again today to have them check and I was so sure it was a girl! I had this gut feeling and then this pregnancy has been totally different. Not too sick, not throwing up every day like I did with Dax, but that means absolutely nothing! Dax is going to have a little play mate, a best friend, and a little brother. We are so excited for him!!!!

Ultra Sounds

I figured that since we will be finding out what we are having on Monday that I better post the ultra sounds from the past. One I was 13 weeks but measuring 12, the other ones I was 15 weeks. And of course I was too early at my last one for them to give me a for sure answer, I had to wait, until I am about 19 weeks. It is killing me to find out! I wish I could go find out right now!! I always have a hard time seeing what is what in the ultra sounds until I am pretty far along. I think it's because they look like little aliens! One is of the body's profile, and the other are the face and feet. When we go home Cole always has to point out what is what! So... Any guesses of what we will be having??

I decided to write a post about this because it was the SCARIEST thing that has ever happened to me and I do not want to forget about it and how I felt. I'm not the greatest at writing in a journal so I figured this is the best I would probably do. July started off as a busy month. Since finding out I was pregnant I have had many doctor appointments. I had to gone to Salt Lake for some, and multiple doctors here. We also moved out of my parents and into a townhome, which we are SO thrilled about. It's hard previously living in our home that we owned to a smaller place. BUT we have a pool and a back yard and we are closer to all of our friends. But back to the story. The week after we moved in I was still going to my mom's house about every day to pick up things we had left there. I had an OB appointment in the morning and figured I would run over to my mom's, who was watching Dax, eat my lunch, and get a couple of things and head home. On the way home is was past lunch time so I stopped at Taco Bell and picked up some lunch. I ate when I got to my mom's but threw it all up. I didn't give myself any insulin since I didn't keep anything down. Dax was laying down for a nap, and with throwing up I didn't feel well and thought I would too. I laid down next to the room Dax was sleeping in, so when he woke up and cried, I would hear him. The next thing I know I hear men talking. I open my eyes and see a room full of strangers. In uniforms. The Paramedic asked me my name, what year it was, who the president was, and if I knew what had happened. I couldn't answer any of his questions. After a few minutes he asked again what my name was, I said "Kim". I looked over and there was a man with brown hair holding my hand. I assumed it was Cole. Nope, it wasn't Cole though- but I still thought it was. It was actually another paramedic who had put an IV into my hand. The paramedic then asked if I knew who some people were. It was my mom and Dax. Thankfully I knew who they were. I panicked because I didn't know where I was,what time of day it was, and anything that had happened earlier that day. He then asked if I knew how far along I was with my pregnancy. I thought to myself " I'm pregnant? Oh yeah.... I AM pregnant!" And then panicked even more. The paramedic then explained what had happened. My blood sugar had gotten so low and I no one could wake me up. They continued working on me as I was in such a nervous state. I was in shock. My temp was very low and they had to warm me up. All I could think about was "I can't believe I let this happen to me. I never wanted this to happen and did everything I could to prevent this. It had never happened before. I felt like such a horrible person and mother." I then looked around and realized there were the Santa Clara Police, Firemen, and EMT's. I felt very safe and just laid back. I still couldn't even count how many people were in one room. They then asked me if I needed to go to the hospital. I was still in shock, cold, a little out of it, and so worried about the baby-that I had forgotten about. They then took me to the hospital. I had never taken a ride in an ambulance. It was quite interesting! It was actually very interesting! The EMT that was monitoring was SO nice and helpful. His name was Greg Leavitt. He made me feel so calm. I then was at the hospital where my Dad and Cole met me. I had to stay for a couple hours and then was released. My mom told me that she had gone upstairs because Cole was on the phone and wanted to talk to me. I guess I took the phone and put it up to my ear while I was laying down but still had my eyes closed to didn't say anything. My mom couldn't get me to respond. She told Cole that we would call back! Then she knew what had happened because I she saw sweat dripping off my face, which happens when your sugars get very low. She tried putting honey and jam in my mouth, anything that she could try to get down me. But I was gagging and acting like I was going to throw up so she called 911. That was the scariest day of my life. I am so thankful I was at my mom's when it happened. If I were home alone who knows what could have happened. I may not be here, I may have lost the baby, and who knows what would have happened to Dax. I am so thankful for friends and family who care about me and help me. This has truly been a hard pregnancy because I seem to be more sensitive to insulin and have had many scary low blood sugars. I'm just thankful that the baby, me, and Dax are ok. I will post the pictures of the last 2 ultra sounds I have had soon!

Baby Update

Well.....my how time flies when you already have a baby following you around and keeping you on your toes! Tomorrow I'll be 9 weeks. I have a hard time going week by week and when people ask me what my due date is. I never go the full 40 weeks, with Dax I was 34 weeks when he was delivered. They never let diabetics go that long. They usually end up inducing you around 36 weeks. If you calculate 36 weeks instead of 40, I would be due December 18th. I just hope I don't have a christmas baby, which there is a pretty good chance! I have just been telling people that Dax will have a new brothe or sister by the end of the year. Now I just worry about all the RSV and sickness with newborns in the winter months. I need to stop worrying and just think that what are the chances of my water breaking again and going 6 weeks early??? Who knows! I just cannot believe that our little bean already looks like a polly pocket baby! And I hate that I can't button up by pants anymore!! I know I have a little chub, but come on, 3 weeks ago I could zip and button with out a problem. Maybe I should just wear my old maternity pants and face that I am pregnant, and I will be getting fat, or I AM getting fat. :) Next week I have my 10 week appointment, before I am technically 10 weeks though, and I believe I am getting another ultra sound, so I will keep you posted! YAY!

Well....since we made the big announcement I thought I would post the ultrasound we got 2 weeks ago. There was a heart beat so we were so excited about that! The first time I got pregnant and was supposed to be around 6 weeks, and there was no heart beat, nothing, and miscarried so the sound of a heart beat is the most wonderful sound in the world to me. I am now 8 weeks along, and due January 15th, but most likely than not will be a December baby. Dax and this little one will be closer than age that we would have chosen, but Dax will love having a friend! This is the first of many ultrasounds to be posted! Last time with Dax we had so many ultrasounds because I am a high risk pregnancy. Towards the end of my pregnancy I have about 2 ultra sounds a week...

My friend Alecia took the pictures. She is amazing and so thankful for her to take them. We have been trying to take these pictures for what seems like months. We had to keep rescheduling. We were about to do that tonight because Cole worked til 8, but luckily he got off at 7:30 so he hurried to the location and we snapped as many shots as we could until there was no more sunlight. Out of our litter of puppies we still have one for sale. She is the tiniest of the litter, adorable, and cuddly! If you are interested or know someone who is, let me know. They are $250 and will be ready this weekend to go. The pictures is a little blurry, sorry. They are so hard to take pictures of! They are so wiggly! She is tan with brown eyes, she does have one little white spot on the top of her head. They are ShiChi puppies, Shih Tzu Chihuhua mix.

So if you follow my blog, you will remember my April Fools Day joke. If not, Look at my blog entry on April 1st. Since April Fools is Dax's birthday I wanted to do a fun joke with him, so we had him hold a sign saying he was going to be a big brother and posted it on here. I started to feel so bad when so many people texted me and called me saying congrats. It was a great joke! Little did we know that the real joke was on us!!!!! I didn't think that we would be using this same picture AGAIN one month later. DAX REALLY IS GOING TO BE A BIG BROTHER! Yup.....around the time of the joke some how a miracle happened. Knowing us, and how much work it was to have Dax, having this little accident, really is a miracle. Getting Dax here was quite the experience and faith builder. We went through a miscarriage, surgery, HSG test, many of ultra sounds trying to find something wrong with me, Cole taking fertility tests, and taking infertility pills. How could we have an accident??????? I guess this little miracle just wanted to join our family. We are quite shocked still. I am still in a little denile that I'm pregnant. Even having an ultra sound today and seeing the heart beat, didn't convince me. I guess when I start throwing up I'll believe it :) With Dax, I was sick as a dog! I'm still not that far along, but we are going to enjoy the ride!

This past week I actually started using my Gold's Gym membership which I have had since before Dax was born! Don't get me wrong, I did use it before Dax was born, but I got sick, then couldn't work out, had Dax, got REALLY out of shape, and here I am! We paid up front so I feel guilty not using it, and because i really NEED to work out. I am posting this picture on the lady in pink because that's how I felt while working out- fyi, THAT IS NOT ME!!! Thank goodness, but I sure felt like it with all the skinny girls in spandex or short shorts running miles and miles, so it seemed on the treadmill. And of course, to make it all better, there are always the guys that look like this guy, watching you trying to lift weights and use the machines.....I wish I could go work out every day by myself, in a gym with no one there!

So I have been really bad at keeping up with posts the last couple of weeks. Dax poured a can of soda down into the computer so we haven't had a computer with fast enough internet to post pictures...or that I have the patience to use. Here are some pictures of Dax on the day of his birthday. We took him to get balloons, to the park-his favorite place to go, opened presents, and he had a mini cake. In the pictures there is some of Dax just being cute, playing with a balloon, then the popped balloon, drinking out of a water fountain, playin with mom and dad, yawning after a fun day, and his little birthday festivities. I'm warning you that it is a picture overload!!!! What can I say, I'm a proud mommy of the cutest boy ever!

Today Daisy had puppies. Also, on my nephew Spencer's birthday. Daisy did pretty much all the work and did great. I wish I could handle labor like that!!! We are announcing Roger-the boy spotted puppy, Florence AKA "Flo" the tan puppy, and Phyllis the white puppy. As you can tell by there nicknames we have a sense of humor. We wanted to name Cozmo, the dad, Gary but didn't dare, and wish we did. We sometimes call him Gary because he responds to anything and everything. We think it's funny to name animals human names....though we have non of our own to name, and not for a VERY long long time will we add another animal to the Fam. I'm not sure how the pix will look on here, with the flash the dogs are so bright, but without it's pretty dark, Ill post more later. If you know anyone would be interested in buying one, let me know! I believe they around $200.

Okay, So.....I guess I have some explaining to do. I am NOT pregnant. With Dax's birthday on April Fools day I thought t would be fun to take a picture of him every year pulling a prank. Today is Daxton's first birthday. I just cannot believe my baby isn't really a baby anymore. It makes me kind of sad to think he is growing up! I never understood why people say children grow up in the blink of an eye, and it is so true! Today all I have been thinking about is the vivid memories of this day last year. It was the happiest, yet scariest day of my life. My water broke, and of course being April Fools, not even Cole believed me. I told him he better meet me at the hospital because I was on my way down or else he would miss the birth of our child. Not only that, I wasn't due until 6 weeks later. I suppose Dax just couldn't wait any longer to meet us. We were quite excited to meet him as well. I am so glad Heavenly Father gave us Dax. He is such a joy and a blessing! I couldn't imagine not having him in our lives. It's so amazing to see pictures of Dax the day he was born and the struggle he went through, and then to see him today. He is a little wild man, and VERY happy. He is so rambunctious! It's so fun to have him in our lives. I thought for his birthday I would post some pictures of the first year of his life. So I have been growing my hair out for awhile. I am now in a rut....I hate the color of my hair, I hate the cut, I am starting to feel boring and like a soccer mom. I need something new. I really like this picture but not sure how it would look on me. I know Cole hates it, but hey, he doesn't style my hair every day!! What do guys know about fashion anyways??? I need opinions!

Dinner Time

Dax is really into eating now. He loves to feed himself. I let him old the spoon...not that he has any idea what the purpose is...he only knows it goes in his mouth. By the end of dinner he is usually ready for bed, and SO done with trying to feed himself.

Playing at the Park

On this day we took Dax to the park. He wasn't quite sure what to do! He was overwhelmed with all the kids, slides, and swings....swings...he loves swings. It was so fun to watch him.

Puppy

I think we have a puppy on the loose. I went in to get dax out of the crib and he was chewing on the crib! He is like a teething puppy chewing on shoes and furniture....no joke about the shoes! He LOVES shoes, he licks them and chews them and carries them around like a prized possession! It makes me sick! I also notices all around the top of the crib, teeth marks! Dax's crib is covered in teeth marks...... I really think we have a little puppy!

Bubble Monster

I love Dax's bath time because he always ecstatic to get in the tub, he can barely wait to get his clothes off to get in the tub. I think these pictures are so fun! Dax looks like a little bubble bath swamp monster coming out of the tub. I love his bubble beards as well. What a cutie pie!

Play Time

What you see in these pictures is what happens every day. About 90% of our day is spent on the stairs. Going up and down mostly, and then looking over the top railing pointing when the phone rings, or at people walking around. Dax LOOOOOVES the stairs....I'm really starting to HAAAATE the stairs......yuck. But I do love Dax smiling and laughing as he is going up the stairs and playing at the top with toys.

Our little Oompa Loompa

Tonight I decided to let Dax have some fun and start feeding himself real food, not just crackers, cheese, and pieces of fruits and veggies. I gave him a spoon, which you can tell didn't get used much, and a whole bowl full of spaghetti. Despite the mess, he actually ate a ton! I filled his bowl completely full thinking that all of it would end up on the floor. He had a blast! He was just laughing and screaming because he was so excited that he couldn't stand it. I was laughing so hard because he was so orange!! Even after his bath he was still orange. I think he looks just like a little oompa loompa from Willy Wonka!!

Wagon Ride

Dax went on his first wagon ride over the weekend. My family went to the park with some of Dax's cousins. He loves to play and spend time with his cousins.

Sleepy Boy...again..

Dax always seems to fall asleep in things. Last night Dax was sitting in his high chair with some cheesy puff things and his bottle while watching Dad play his video games. Dax is actually entertained by it. I don't complain because this is usually when I can get a couple things done. As soon as he polished his snack and bottle off he was out like a light. Not even the flash of the camera woke him up. He looks so cute, and so big to me! He is actually starting to look like a toddler and not a baby...it's kind of sad to me, but I will always see him as my baby!

Mohawk Boy

I think Dax is known for his crazy mohawk. He was pretty much born with one. We couldn't style it different or even get it to lay down. Ever since then we have just styled it that way. I have had many people say he looks so different with his hair down- now that we have cut it probably six times, but I think he looks cute with it....he looks like a little tough guy.

Speedy Pants

Speedy Pants...or no pants.... Whenever we are changing Dax's diaper or taking his clothes off for a bath we can barely get everything off before he is on the loose. This particular time Cole and I were laughing so hard that we just let him roam around like this. We couldn't get his shirt off all the way before he got away, so I grabbed the camera and took some of these silly pictures.

Dax LOVES his sunglasses...but wearing them is another story. He will carry them around with him when he crawls around or sits and chews them. I can barely get a picture of him with them on before he rips them off.

Doggie Door

Dax has now discovered the doggie door. In these pictures he is looking at Daisy through the flap. He has not escaped out the door yet. He has put his hand through the door, but didn't like it since it is so cold and snowy outside still....but it's only a matter of time! And yes, those are his Christmas jammies from Grandma Shirts, I just can't let him only wear them on Christmas Eve, so he is still wearing them, even in February!

Pearly Whites

Splish Spash!

I have been putting Dax in the tub now since before he was covering the kitchen counters and floor in soapy water with his splashing. I decided that one shower a day for me was enough, that I also didn't need a nightly bath, just our little messy boy. Dax is starting to look ridiculous in his infant to toddler bath rub in the normal size tub. He looks like a monster in it! I just am so freaked out about babies drowning that I haven't dared just stick him in the tub, but now that he is almost 11 months....I think it's time to graduate.

Grandpa Deverall

Over the Christmas Vacation Daxton was able to meet his Grandpa Deverall- Cole's dad for the first time. He had never seen anyone with a mustache and wasn't too excited about it. He did get a little more used to him before he left. Grandpa Deverall also gave him a jeresy from his home state football team. Greenbay! Dax looked so cute in it. We also go some shots with Cole, his dad, Dax, and Cole's brother Chase.
